Couples Therapy

Trust Wears Thin Before Either of You Says It

You still love your partner. Trust just feels thinner lately.

When your partner says something, you reach for the worst possible meaning. Before you’ve even asked what they meant.

Your partner does it with your words too. You both feel it.

You’d each like that trust back, and wanting it is a real place to start.

Slow Your Conflicts Down Enough to See Them

Trust works like a prediction about what your partner means.

Once it wears thin, each of you predicts the worst and reacts to that before anyone’s finished talking.

In session, I slow that exchange down on purpose, so neither of you gets ahead of the other.

Slowed down, whatever’s driving your conflict gets much easier for both of you to see.

Catch the Pattern While It’s Still Happening

We’ll pause right where a conversation starts to heat up, before either of you digs in.

Each of you says what you expected to hear in that moment. Then you say what you meant.

The gap between what you expected and what you meant is the pattern.

I’ll explain what’s going on as it happens, so you both learn to spot it without me there.

Decide What Each of You Will Do Differently

Once you both see the pattern, I bring in solution-focused couples therapy.

With it, each of you works out what you’ll do differently the next time a disagreement starts.

Down to the words you’ll use.

It’s practical, and you’ll each leave a session with something specific to try.

Report Back on How It Went

Between sessions, you’ll put it to work with each other.

When you come back, we’ll go through what happened, step by step.

If it worked, you keep it.

If it fell flat, we’ll rework it together.

Each try teaches you both something about what your partner needs from you.

Hand Your Partner Something Better to Predict

Follow through on what you said you’d do.

Every time you do, your partner’s prediction about you shifts a little.

Your partner’s follow-through does the same for you. That’s slow work, and it’s supposed to be.

Trust built this way is sturdier, because each of you watched it happen.

Build Trust Back Through Small Things That Go Right

Over time, keeping your word to each other starts to come naturally.

A tense conversation stays slow enough for both of you to follow.

You and your partner disagree and still talk it through, without either of you walking away.

That’s what being emotionally safe with each other looks like day to day.

Own Your Side of the Work

Building that takes work from both of you, in session and in the days between.

I’ll ask each of you about your own part, because that piece is yours to change.

It also keeps me from taking sides.

Ask for a Brief Consult as a Couple

The work is all online, for couples in any part of Missouri.

I’ll use a brief consult to hear what’s been happening between you and what you’d like to change. Then we’ll weigh whether therapy feels right for you both.

Talk it over with your partner, then dial (636) 591-8696.

Let Your Relationship Support You Again

You still love each other. That's the part worth building on.

The quiet nights, the repeated arguments, the topics you avoid; none of it has to stay the way it is.

Call me at (636) 591-8696 and tell me what's been happening between you. We'll figure out the first thing to change and whether this is the right next step for the two of you.
